Dan Proft… a non machine candidate for Governor?

I’ve only been in Illinois for just under two years, but in my short time here I’ve learned that about 98% of the people “representing” Illinois are, for the most part a complete scam. The political machine of Illinois is powerful. In fact, I truly believe the machine has become so large and greedy that the people have completely lost control of the Government here in Illinois.

Which is why I take notice when someone from “outside the box” steps up to the plate and starts swinging. Say what you want about candidate for Illinois Governor Dan Proft, but you can’t deny he’s a political outsider looking to change the game.

I’ve only met Dan Proft once, so I don’t really know him all too well. But I do know that one the one occasion I sat down with him, I found him to be extremely open, honest and up front. He tells it like it is and isn’t afraid to let you know exactly what he’s thinking.

Regarding Proft’s politics… this is from a recent story over at Bolingbrook Sun.

Calling himself an “unapologetic conservative,” Proft minced no words when talking about the financial condition of Illinois and the problems facing the state.

Castigating the “Chicago Nine” — a group of Democratic officeholders that includes Gov. Quinn, Mayor Daley, Cook County Board President Todd Stroger and others — Proft demonstrated the fight that has made him a favorite in the conservative community and the bane of many Illinois progressives.

“They are the fixers,” he said, stressing that Illinois’ political system is “set up for their benefit and literally destroying the Illinois economy.”

Calling for a cut in the state income tax and tax relief for business, Proft said the “tax and spend” approach to governing was out of favor in Illinois and pointed to the recent “tea party” tax protests as evidence that voters wanted to move in a new direction.

Sounds like my kind of guy. It will be interesting to see how the Republican Primary plays out this year. Dan Proft is the only candidate I’ve personally had a conversation with, so I can’t really speak about any of the other candidates from any party. That said I do know some pretty shady things about guys like Dillard and a few of the others… all of which we’ll be discussing here at ALA Illinois over the next few months.
